Okay so yesterday I went to Rock the Bells with my old bandmates and other people i had just met from park slope. the festival itself was pretty predictable and quite hot/packed with people.

Tim and i had vip tickets so we got all sorts of free stuff like t shirts and bookbags and sponsored sandisk microsd cards(lol) as well as access to the exclusive vip area, which was cool. i wasn't paying attention to about 90% of the show during the day because i really dont listen to hip hop much. I caught a little bit of a few early artists like public enemy and brother ali. i did however miss both sage francis and immortal technique because they played at the second stage and i was elsewhere for most of the day. later on, I watched cypress hill which wasn't bad even though i don't really listen to them. they inflated a giant buddha with an equally giant marijuana leaf on his stomach, and then passed around a 4 foot bong. flava flav was also on at some point, that was a (lame) surprise.

By the time Wu Tang Clan came on i had started pushing my way to the front to get in position for rage against the machine. I figured i wouldn't get a chance later. that was kind of a mistake on my part because even during wu tang, the moshing was really intense. rage wasn't even on yet and it was already more hectic than any other concert i had been at (including ozzfest, system of a down, and AFI).wu tang finished eventually but people would not let up with the pushing and grinding. it was getting quite tiring. throughout this whole time and while rage did go on, every minute there would be at least 1 person that would lose it and climb over the crowd to get away (i got kicked in the back of the head and in the face several times because i wouldn't be ready for it sometimes).

Finally, rage came on and i just wasn't ready for it physically. i couldn't quite enjoy the first song because i was very tired and out of breath, about to collapse almost. also at one point i was sure i broke a rib. while up to this point i was not ready to surrender and retreat from the front, i had seriously started considering it as an alternative to passing out and getting trampled. i started making my way back at least a few rows where i was sure it wouldve been a bit better. as i was moving, bulls on parade came on and i was scared for my life(lol). i was getting tossed around and i started jumping up and down too because that is one of my favorite songs and it just gets me going. by the time the solo came on i was already about 10-15 rows back as opposed to 3 rows back like before.

the show was quite amazing from this point on. the band's performance was quite impeccable. i took this time to shoot 8 videos and some 50 pictures because i was actually in an area that wasn't too violent. surprisingly, the 2.0 megapixel camera on my krzr is actually quite good, and the sound quality is actually decent too, considering i was maybe 20 yards away from the 60 foot speakers. i'll post a bunch of stuff on facebook/youtube later most likely, but if anyone wants to see some pictures or videos, let me know (on video i have a part of 'know your enemy', half of 'bullet in the head', half of 'calm like a bomb', the beginning of 'guerilla radio', and some other stuff). eventually i was energized so for the last 3 songs i made my way back to the front and was once again in the 2nd-3rd row (if i even tried to take my phone out at this point it wouldve been shattered).

they played every one of my favorite songs except bombtrack, and i was actually really surprised because i thought they played that one at all their concerts. after they finished, the band took their bow and left the stage. it seemed like they were on for 5 minutes because the time flew by so quickly. their whole set was impeccable and it was quite surreal seeing them live after they have been broken up for 6 years. 200$ well spent :) also, amazing foresight on my part to bring earplugs(something i see on a few smart people at every concert but always forget to buy). i could actually HEAR the music and i didn't have a headache after the fact!

After the concert I stopped by margaret's party to say hello to everybody in my sweaty and disgusting state. i also finally got to see jason ride his ninja. he also let me sit on it and rev the engine. it was badass.

danny bought us iron & wine tickets for september at town hall, that's gonna be fun.

..i'm done.

so to start off today's entry, I want to make note of this
http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/07/25/death.cat.ap/index.html
grim reaper kitty. how crazy is that?

so tonight my mom and I went here ( http://www.themonkeynyc.com/ ) to see this guy ( http://www.themonkeynyc.com/artist_pino.htm ). It was actually pretty fantastic. 4 guitarists went on one at a time and they all had really unique styles. Pino Forastiere, the headliner, is a really intense finger stylist and he does some pretty crazy string slapping and tapping.

Tomorrow I am getting my kitty shaved. Saturday is Rage Against the Machine :-D.

-Dima
